I want to share this great summary of Microsoft Cloud Ninja trainings with you.

I receive a lot of messages on mentoring, training hints and cybersec/infosec career paths support. My recommendations:
– Start with one topic
– Focus on one vendor (a big one)
– Try and error (with labs and tutorials)
– Get hands-on experience in entry-level jobs (e.g. 1-level analyst or support)
– Focus on cloud services
– Do not try to get the whole picture at the start

Understand the different roles:
– Engineering and architecture
– Incident response
– Management and administration
– Consulting
– Testing and hacking
– Compliance and Governance
(see https://www.coursera.org/articles/cybersecurity-career-paths)

Why?
– Think of what brings you forward and gives you the best perspective
– Check for vendors which offer detailed documentation and a good community
– Look for tools and technologies which are easily accessible
– Do the dirty work at the beginning, you will learn a lot fast
– Legacy systems are hard to understand without guidance
– You cannot simply create a lab full of legacy systems
– It is hard to start as a “consultant” or “GRC expert”, administrators and others will simply fool you
– You need hands-on practice, understand the basics first

There’s been a big rush of new interest in Microsoft security certifications recently, e.g. for learn modules (Browse Certifications and Exams – the SC series) created to help those seeking certifications, but these are great sources of knowledge training by themselves.

Now it’s a time for setting new goals and making a fresh start. Bring your knowledge of Microsoft security to the next level, become a true security ninja.

Are you ready to join the ranks of highly skilled and sought-after security professionals? If so, it’s time to start planning and taking action toward your goals.
